Wasa Slo-Pitch tournament took place this last weekend and as
always was a lot of fun! 6 teams from Cranbrook
participated in this fun tournament, Boston Pizza, Tri-Mountain,
Pro-Fitness, Chattanooga's, Finnegans Wake, and a combination
team of Munro's and Heidi's. This is a tournament is
unlike most tournaments, teams are there for one great big
party. Beer is not only allowed in the dugout but also
on the field! One of the things that sets this tournament
apart from any other is the relationship that takes place
between all the teams. Most of teams spend the weekend
camping, eating, and drinking together. If a team was
short a player there is always someone from another team willing
to step in to help out. Jon Bisset, one of the
organizers of the tournament opens his backyard for camping and
puts on an amazing dinner on Saturday night. There were
members from every team in Jon's yard on Saturday night with
enough food to feed an army. Jon plays with Chattanooga's
on Monday night and Heidi's on Wednesday, he is also a member of
the Wasa Pubbers team who put on this tournament. The winners
of this year's Wasa tournament are all related. Jamie Epp,
Courtnay Berkhiem, Frank Berkhiem, Isabel Berkhiem, Carmen
Berkhiem, Shelly Webber, Glen Webber, and Shawn Jensen all play
Monday with Chattanooga's and Wednesday with Pro-Fitness.
They decided this year to split up and put both teams in the
tournament. Jamie Epp and Courtnay Berkhiem ran the
Pro-Fitness team with Shawn Jensen and also had some more of
their regular team members like Jamie's sister Connie, and her
husband Ron, while Frank and Isabel ran the Chattanoogas team
with Shelly, Glen, and Carmen, they also had their other
daughter Amy come out for the weekend.
Both teams came out winners this weekend. Pro Fitness
won the A Division, while Chattanooga's won B. The
Famdamly from Sparwood took 2nd in "A" and Finnegans Wake from
Cranbrook took 2nd in "B".
